Graduation Celebration Ideas

Provide a book or blank cards for party guests to leave predictions or or hopes for the graduate’s future. Title it “In Ten Years…”

Include a time of blessing in the graduation celebration you’re planning. Ask a few family members, friends, or mentors to thank God for what He has done in the life of the graduate and to pray for his or her future.

At your graduation celebration: Keep a loop of a slide show or videos of the graduate from childhood to his or her most recent activities playing on your TV, computer monitor, or laptop throughout the party.

Another idea to honor a graduate: Create a Time Capsule to be opened in 10 or 20 years. Ask party guests to bring something that reflects the relevant years in some way, i.e., a receipt, event program, newspaper clipping, movie ticket, photo, or souvenir. Include a few notes of appreciation & blessing for the graduate. Place all of these into a box, tin, or can or container with a lid, seal it, and mark it “Do not open until 202__ (or 203__).”

Make a playlist of the graduate’s favorite songs to play during their graduation party. You might also want to add the school’s alma mater or fight song.

Research interesting tidbits of information about your graduate or the school he/she’s graduating from (or will attend). Print up the facts on cards and scatter them around the location of your celebration.

Ask graduation party guests to offer written advice to the graduate, either directly in a book or on separate papers to be assembled later. Offer prompts such as: “The most important things I’ve learned since high school are. . .” or “Before I started college, I wish that someone told me . . .”

Graduation Party Game: Display pictures of the graduate from different years. Ask guests to match each picture with the grade or year when it was taken.

Ask your musically inclined friends or relatives to provide live entertainment for your graduation celebration. If you also have musical talent, offer to reciprocate~ If not, perhaps you can design & address invitations, cook, bake goodies, or plan activities for their parties.

Display pictures of the graduate from different years. Ask guests to match each picture with the grade or year when it was taken.

Prepare a Trivial Pursuit quiz with multiple choice questions about the graduate. They might be about the graduate’s favorite subject or teacher, extracurricular activities, a science fair project, special field trip, honors, funny dorm life experience, etc.
